Black and white has always been an inspiration for Tony. In 1985 he developed his first black and white print in a darkroom and he was hooked. As the image appeared he instinctively knew that Photography was his calling and over the next 20 years continued to master all aspects of darkroom techniques producing some of the finest hand-printed images you are likely to see.

Tony still continues in this craft creating some fine art studies that are sold in limited quantities and for key clients will still shoot film for its own special qualities, but he also embraced the burgeoning digital technology only adopting it for clients when he felt that the quality of digital compared with film.

Between 1991 and 1997, Tony took academic training, pursuing an HND in photo-journalism (which is now more commonly known as Reportage), finally progressing to a 1st Class Honours Degree from Sunderland University in Photography, Video and Digital Imagery.

Tony was one of the first exponents of the art of Reportage in wedding photography, combining his formal training in photojournalism with his compositional skills, creating a mini-documentary about his clients ‘Wedding Day’ in his unique contemporary style.

The adoption of the Yin Yang symbol reflects Tony’s approach to photography.

The Chinese concept of yin and yang has many natural dualities – Light & Dark, Male & Female, High & Low, to name just a few.

“These conceptual qualities are all aspects that I combine in my photographic techniques. Light and mood are key to the success of any photographic project and I am very aware of all of these elements when I shoot.

About 10 years ago, my partner Angie began assisting me on wedding shoots and this was the final link in the chain. Because of her woman’s touch, she brings her unique female expressiveness which complements the way I work perfectly. She can instinctively detect the small nuances in a photo-shoot, that’s why the finished look is so good and why our Wedding clients are so happy with what we create for them. Our approach is not only professional but intuitive too, and we realised we could capture more Expression & Life by working as a team.”
